Srinagar: Artificial intelligence is no longer a concept limited to research laboratories or science-fiction films. From smartphones and search engines to online education and digital businesses, AI is increasingly becoming part of everyday technology.

Over the past few years, the rapid development of generative AI has changed the way people interact with computers. Tools capable of understanding natural language can now write text, generate images, analyse information, assist with programming and perform tasks that previously required specialised software or human expertise.

For ordinary users, one of the biggest changes is the shift from searching for information to interacting with information. Instead of simply entering keywords into a search engine, users can increasingly ask questions in conversational language and receive explanations tailored to their needs.

AI in Education

The education sector is also experiencing significant changes. Students can use AI-based tools to understand difficult concepts, practise programming, summarise study material and receive explanations at different levels of difficulty.

However, educators and students are also facing questions about originality, accuracy and responsible use. AI-generated information can sometimes contain errors, making it important for users to verify important information rather than accepting every response without checking.

A New Era for Software

AI is also changing software development. Developers can now use AI assistants to generate code, identify programming errors, explain unfamiliar code and speed up routine development tasks.

This does not necessarily eliminate the need for programmers. Instead, the role of developers is increasingly shifting towards designing systems, understanding problems, reviewing generated code and making decisions about how technology should be used.

The Challenges Ahead

The rapid adoption of AI also brings challenges. Privacy, misinformation, copyright, cybersecurity and the impact of automation on employment remain important issues that governments, companies and users will have to address.

Another challenge is the growing amount of AI-generated content online. As synthetic text, images, audio and video become increasingly convincing, distinguishing between authentic and artificially generated material may become more difficult.

What Comes Next?

The next stage of AI development is likely to focus not only on generating content but also on AI systems that can understand context, use multiple types of information and assist users with complex tasks.

For consumers, this could mean more intelligent smartphones, search tools, applications and digital assistants. For businesses, AI could become increasingly integrated into everyday workflows.

Artificial intelligence is therefore not simply another technological trend. It is becoming part of the broader digital infrastructure that people interact with every day.

The technology is still evolving, and many of its long-term effects remain uncertain. What is clear, however, is that the way people interact with technology is changing — and AI is at the centre of that transformation.
